If you go over a crest in a corner, the vertical g will be less, less grip so the window to "light up" is very narrow. Therefore the % wheel slip is much less in the 3D table, and as you go faster this % gets smaller as well.
And the last reason for putting so much effort in the TC is personal safety. If you have a driveline failure, diff, axle or CV, the TC will shut down the motor the same way a rev limiter does, so the car will not be steered off the road by 1 wheel spinning.
